Enigma - The Cross of Changes Album
The Cross of Changes was released in 1993 worldwide on Virgin Records.
It was recorded at A.R.T. studios, Ibiza, Spain.
The Cross of Changes marked the beginnig of Jens' teamwork with Michael for Enigma. Jens played lots of solo guitars on this album and remixed the main single songs like 'Return to Innocence' and 'The Eyes of Truth'.
The long guitar solos on 'I love You - I'll kill You' are probably amongst Jens' highlights in released guitar work. The first part is played with a so called 'e-bow' (a little battery powered box that is held over the strings of the guitar and keeps the string in motion. so the guitar can be played by solely moving your fingers over the frets) and the second part of the solo features a long distorted passage, played with a Wah Wah Crybaby, a distortion pedal and a custom made Marshall stack (by german guitar specialist Peter Weihe).
For these solos Michael actually moved the wah wah pedal while jens was playing the guitar. It was a loud and crazy scenario, almost like being on stage together.
MTV picked some of these solo passages and used them for their own jingles and ID clips.
The track 'Out from the Deep' features another long Hendrix style guitar solo, played on Michael's sunburst Les Paul standard.
Jens was in ibiza / spain during almost all the production time of this album. Michael and Jens started working on drumproduction and arrangement parts.
As a result, Jens produced / arranged / mixed all released remixes ever done from this album: 'Return to Innocence', 'Eyes of Truth', Carly's Song' and 'Out from the Deep'.
This was the beginning of a long year collaboration.

It is Enigma's second album, following MCMXC a.D., released three years earlier.
The most notable song of the album was "Return to Innocence", which was released as a single and featured in several film soundtracks. A more rock-infused sound is present in The Cross of Changes, and the Gregorian chants from the previous album were replaced with ethnic-style world chants. The Ami (Native Taiwanese) chants featured in "Return to Innocence" are often wrongly identified as Native American.
